HottHe of the Week…Kaitlyn
Hippie Chic, Beach Chic, call Kaitlyn , whatever you want, but He is going to call her a HottHe. Cannot tell you how many pictures, have He’s famous Upper Arm Bangle, tons of rings and jewelry, heels, wedges everywhere. Kaitlyn is going to quickly rise to the ranks of top fashion blogger, but for now she is He Approved. How would you describe your style? Im a scrabbled version of a gypsy native american with a little more edge… I used to cut out the pictures of Native Americans out of my parents Cowbys&Indians and cover my walls with them. You’ll usually see me in diaper size shorts, boots, and a extremely oversized top. Smothered in jewelry. With some sort of adornment on top of my head. Favorite item you own? Any of my turquoise jewelry. I feel naked without it. Who are your favorite designers? Isabel Marant is always fun. And I feel like Cynthia Vincent could be my twin sole.. HE Needs More HottHes?

Reader Request: Balancing Contrasting Styles
And most work days you’ll find me wearing something moderately vintage-y. But as someone who has an eclectic personal style AND a tendency to gravitate toward bold and showy looks, I make a concerted effort to tone down any outfits that might read as stylized. If I want to do punk, I don’t do studs and combat boots and a bomber jacket and head-to-toe black. I make sure to mix in elements from another style C typically a more neutral one C for balance. If I want to do cowgirl, I may do a denim dress and vintage cowgirl boots, but I won’t add a straw hat, turquoise jewelry, or a large-buckle belt. You catch my drift, I’m sure. If your Multiple Style Syndrome manifests in fully-formed and highly-stylized outfits, try to tone those outfits down on a case by case basis. Add simple, classic, even slightly boring pieces to the mix to balance out costume-y elements. Define signature pieces The quickest shortcut to unified personal style is to select and wear a few signature items.

last days of summer
As you might have noticed, I leveraged the last few days of summer to wear my purple Ksubi shorts that I most recently nabbed on the Shopbop sale. I’ve noticed purple creeping its way into my wardrobe lately. Such a tricky color. I don’t always know what to do with it, but it’s kind of like one of those smiley, happy people you can’t help but like. How awesome is this belt? B’s grandmother gave it to me for Christmas last year. Currently sipping a Pimm’s Cup that my lovely husband made for me, watching some trashy television, and catching up on my blog reading .

Western Apparel Boots Are Back
As of fall 2011 it’s time to look to cowboy boots as a fashionable form of footwear once more. It isn’t that western wear boots went out of style exactly, it’s just that other boots were hogging a lot of the attention. Fortunately for those who weren’t a fan of the previous style, it would seem that their reign is ending, and we’re back to good old reins. Ok, pun aside, western apparel has been a part of the fashion canon for many years now. What is unique about that is this: western wear is not only cultural wear in certain areas of the country but it’s initial design was one of function, not style. The uniquely American aesthetic that developed out of that time and place has become a classic. Early trends this year indicate that cowboy boots alone amongst western wear are likely to be in. That means that you probably ought to leave the turquoise jewelry, yoked shirts and fringed items in the closet, but you should absolutely rock the boots.

Letter From the Editor: Farm Bill 2012
Letter From the Editor: Farm Bill 2012 by Dan Flynn | Jun 19, 2011 There is a zip code in a built up area of Colorado’s Front Range that contains only a post office for renting out boxes. The last time I checked about 60 of those box-holders had over the past few years received more than $2 million in various farm subsidies delivered to those boxes. I find myself wondering if their boxes contain miniature tractors and other farm implements that make those checks possible. But I guess they must own land somewhere that is enlisted in a USDA subsidy program or two. I know of a few of those folks. They are not young. Their skin is tanned and leathered and goes well with their turquoise jewelry. Their rides are nice, too. Whenever I see one of them drive away, I wonder about our system of farm subsidies. Most city people do not have a clue about the whole federal mechanism that is used to financially prop up the Ag economy.
