Today I finished up a new spring styling wall. It’s full of pretty jewelry and eclectic touches. It’s inspired by bohemian and gypsy style with lots of old family photos snuck in, just for fun! I used tissue to make the chevron fringe necklace display for our new Moorea Seal pieces, lots of book paper, braided fabric and some tear outs from a Top Shop catalog. It’s safe to say I’m FULLY in the mood for spring. Emma and I bought loads of high waisted pants this week and we’re sending a bunch to the seamstress to make high waisted shorts! My necklaces
Iwrote a few weeks ago about how my necklaces have become symbols for me. They give me strength. I’ve added a couple more, and thought I’d share my favorites. My necklace display board is an old bulletin board. I stuck in pushpins and hang my necklaces. This keeps them from getting tangled, and it just makes me happy to see them hanging there each morning before I leave for work. This is one of my first necklaces. It’s a Lisa Leonard . It had tarnished pretty badly, but I found it last weekend and shined it up. Put a new 24″ chain on it. Love it. These are two of my newest. The one on the left has the kids’ names on it, and the star is kind of my thing. I love the stars. They make me dream. The one on the right is by Chantelle Nicole . The other is by Daisy Metal Creations . I can’t even explain how much I love her work.

Ok, pun aside, western apparel has been a part of the fashion canon for many years now. What is unique about that is this: western wear is not only cultural wear in certain areas of the country but it’s initial design was one of function, not style. The uniquely American aesthetic that developed out of that time and place has become a classic. Early trends this year indicate that cowboy boots alone amongst western wear are likely to be in. The last time I checked about 60 of those box-holders had over the past few years received more than $2 million in various farm subsidies delivered to those boxes. I find myself wondering if their boxes contain miniature tractors and other farm implements that make those checks possible. But I guess they must own land somewhere that is enlisted in a USDA subsidy program or two. I know of a few of those folks. They are not young. Their skin is tanned and leathered and goes well with their turquoise jewelry. Their rides are nice, too. Whenever I see one of them drive away, I wonder about our system of farm subsidies. Most city people do not have a clue about the whole federal mechanism that is used to financially prop up the Ag economy.

Paging Dr. Freud. I’m ready to admit something. I’ve suffered from “costume envy” my whole life. My earliest memory of the problem was when I was five, fighting tears as my Mom presented me with a flimsy store bought black cat costume with angry-cat mask. The material was cheap, the mask hideous. The real issue was my older sister, looking resplendent in her bride costume. White dress, white veil, it was so unfair! She looked angelic and I looked like a rabid alley cat! You’d think I’d be happy when, two years later, the beautiful bridal outfit now fit me. The spine is separated from the book, which is a little quirky, but the inside of the cover is more easily seen this way, and it introduces the trippy, day-glow, space-age palette that one finds within the plates. Nice touch. Not unlike Mr. Panar’s aforementioned book, “Illuminance” is a collection of seemingly disconnected images. But it differs distinctly, as these images are anything but random and dry. Page after page, the photographs scream “art,” with light, and color, dynamic compositions, and the impact of surprise. The kaleidoscopic pinks and purples, black cats and costume jewelry, desert wanderers and dead bugs, and of course the requisite light cascading through cherry blossoms. Ultimately, she builds a cohesive vision through the narrative.

This year, the spring and summer weather caused the trees to be ready to pick about three weeks ahead of the regular schedule, so instead of being in the middle of apple season this past weekend, we are already finished

June Bead Journal Project piece July Bead Journal Project piece Yay!! I am officially caught back up! Will I stay caught up? Dunno. June is a mix of matte and shiny beads, in a little softer color than July. I always associate blues and deep purples with the summer months, and this year June really was kind of soft, with summer slow to get started. But once July got here…bang! Since the watch face for July didn’t have any kind of frame that I could stitch down, I embedded it in a bottle cap. First I punctured two very small holes in the bottom of the cap and stitched it to the fabric backing. Then I added some two-part epoxy resin and the watch face. Hanging Jewelry Holder – Space Saver
I have mentioned before that the reason we moved to Colorado 2 months ago , was for my husband to complete several clinical rotations (for PA school) before graduating next spring. And lucky us, we were able to bum my parents basement apartment off of them while staying here. ( Thanks Mom and Dad! ) The basement has everything we need; bedrooms, a bathroom, a family room……even a kitchen. But overall, it’s a smaller space than what we had in GA So downsizing has been tricky. We can’t spread out as much. So we have meshed things together and have doubled up room purposes. Like, all of my craft stuff is in the family room. Eeek! And my husband’s school desk is in the kitchen. Another eek! But it works just fine and we are really grateful for our basement dwelling status right now. Haha. Anyway, lately, I have been having an all-out-fight with my jewelry.

This party Highlight is a little late but I love the idea, simple, elegant. Don’t you like it. Here is what Angel from TaDa! Creations has done in her master bedroom redo. I’ve had my eye on this frame at IKEA for a while now. And thanks to a gift card from a sweet friend, I was finally able to bring her home and… …turn her into a jewelry holder. Isn’t she purdy? I’ll show you what I did. It was easy-peasy. Find a frame you love and fabric that compliments your room. Now get yourself to Home Depot (or Lowes, I’m not picky) and buy the smallest package you can find of the smallest size chicken wire. It will be in the lawn and garden center, outside. This roll was about $5. Pick up some “S” hooks too. I only bought 1 pkg…I should have bought two. If you don’t already own one, buy a tin snips too. Or borrow one from your neighbor. Roll out the chicken wire (ahem…poultry netting) and try to flatten it the best you can. This is no easy task and I didn’t try really hard, so mine is still kind of lumpy.
